The Noor-ul-Iman Middle School Boy’s Soccer team of South Brunswick kicked off its soccer season with an 8-5 victory against the Red Bulls West Windsor-Plainsboro Recreation team on Sept.13th at Zaitz Park in West Windsor.
The NUI Boy’s Middle School Soccer team consists of 16 players who come from various towns such as South Brunswick, North Brunswick, East Brunswick, Franklin Park, Plainsboro and West Windsor.
The team participates in the West Windsor-Plainsboro Recreation League, playing one game every Saturday for eight weeks along with playing against other private schools.
It is coached by Ahmed Shehata, a Kendall Park resident, who in the past has also coached several youth soccer teams with the South Brunswick Soccer Club.
Coach Shehata said he is very optimistic about his team and that it played well in the first game and that the team looks "very promising" for the future.
He said the soccer team practices once a week at the Plainsboro Community Park and that he plans to work on and help the players improve the technical and tactical aspects of the game.
He said the team is very talented and is "looking forward to winning this league."
In the victory, the goals for NUI were scored by Hamza Shehata with four, Haroon Usmani with two, and Zaid Farooq with two.
After the game, sixth grade soccer player, Haroon Usmani, was happy with the outcome of the game and with his team.
"The first game was fun," he said. "The team is good."
His mother, Asma Usmani, resident of Franklin Park, was excited to see her son participate on the NUI soccer team.
"He loves soccer," she said. "I’m glad NUI has a middle school soccer team so he can play. His friends are there and he enjoys it."
Another NUI soccer parent, Kishwer Ahson, resident of Dayton, was also happy to cheer on her son and the team.
"They are playing very well," she said. "It’s nice they get together, they practice, it’s teamwork."
