SOUTH BRUNSWICK: Sanu stars for Bengals

By Ed Birch, Special Writer
Former South Brunswick star quarterback and Rutgers wide receiver Mohammed Sanu was clearly the star in last week’s Cincinnati Bengals 24-10 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
Star receiver A.J. Green was injured early in the first period with a "turf toe," and did not return to the contest.
Wide receiver then Sanu stepped up to the plate and finished the contest with three catches for 84 total yards.
Sanu was the target for four Andy Dalton pass attempts,
In addition to a third quarter 76-yard pass reception on a Falcons blitz, Sanu also completed a 50-yard pass play on a Head Coach Marvin Lewis option play call.
When asked about which play was more important in the contest, Sanu remarked "I think that they were both tough. I was just able to make a play when I had an opportunity. You’ve just got to have that confidence in yourself to be able to make that throw."
In commenting on the pressure on him after the A.J. Green injury, Sanu said " I’ve got to try to make a play when we’ve got a number of guys down, and we have to have guys step up. I’ve got to be one of those guys."
"It was a big play – a huge play in the ballgame" said Head Coach Lewis after the game. "Dalton did a great job and delivered a perfect ball to Mo (Sanu). Mo did a big-time contested catch and run" said the head coach after the contest.
When asked to comment on Sanu’s passing ability, Lewis remarked "I am impressed with his throwing ability. He’s got great ability," said the head coach.
"You just kind of get the ball to him and let him throw. I think that he is three-for three now in his pro career and he throws the ball well" said quarterback Andy Dalton.
