Eight Lawrence High School student-athletes, two former coaches, one special contributor and the 1974 varsity baseball team will be inducted into the Lawrence High School Athletic Hall of Fame Oct. 11 at the Mercer Oaks Country Club.
Todd Brunner of the Lawrence High School Class of 1986, who earned varsity letters in football and basketball, will be inducted. After graduation from Lehigh University, he served as a scout for the Philadelphia Eagles, the Cleveland Browns, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Seattle Seahawks.
Joseph Franc, who graduated in 1994, earned letters in soccer all four years at the high school. He scored 69 career goals, and still holds the LHS soccer team’s single-scoring record with 29 goals in 1994. After graduating from Elizabeth College, he played one year with the Delaware Wizards in the USISL D3 Pro League.
Pat Haggerty, of the Class of 2001, earned four varsity letters as a member of the soccer team. He also played basketball all four years, and as a freshman and sophomore, he was the first singles player on the tennis team. After graduating from Boston College, he played in the MLS with the New England Revolution in 2005 and 2006.
Izabella Kotowski, who graduated in 1999, was a three-year varsity starter for the LHS field hockey team and also participated in winter and spring track. She attended Fairfield University, where she was named as its female athlete of the year in 2002. In 2007, she was inducted into the college’s athletic hall of fame and in 2010, she was named to its All-Decade field hockey team.
Sara Lamont Kocmond, of the Class of 1987, was the varsity goalkeeper on the 1985 and 1986 field hockey teams. She was named the team’s most valuable player in 1986. She also played shortstop on the varsity softball team. She attended Brown University, and was inducted into its athletic hall of fame in 2002. She is the college’s record holder for career saves (589), career shut-outs (190), career save percentage (.890) and career goals against average (1.02).
Michael Moore, who graduated in 1981, earned varsity letters in football, basketball and baseball. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy on a football scholarship, and served in the U.S. Navy until 2005, when he transferred to the U.S. Navy Reserves.
Cathy Rosato Florek, of the Class of 1982, played varsity soccer and varsity softball. She had 76 career goals in three years of varsity soccer play. After graduating from Ursinus College, she was a health physical education teacher and athletic director at Villa Victoria Acadamy, and coached the girls’ soccer and softball teams. She works at Bristol-Myers Squibb Co.
George Tiger Jr., who is a member of the Lawrence High School Class of 1977, earned varsity letters in soccer, basketball and baseball. He attended Lafayette College and after graduation, he played professional soccer with the Pennsylvania Stoners and the Pittsburgh Spirit. He was inducted into the Lafayette College’s Athletic Hall of Fame and the Mercer County Soccer Hall of Fame.
Also being inducted into the Lawrence High School Athletic Hall of Fame are coaches Dean Mason and Laura Barrall.
Mr. Mason was an assistant football coach from 1984 to 2013, and also was the head coach of the boys’ and girls’ swim teams from 1990 to 2006. The boys’ swim team’s overall record was 169-70, and the girls’ swim team’s record was 151-60-2, for a combined record of 320-130-2.
Ms. Barrall coached varsity and junior varsity field hockey, freshman girls’ basketball and varsity and junior varsity softball, between 1978 and 2010 at Lawrence Intermediate School and Lawrence High School. She was selected Field Hockey Coach of the Year by the Trentonian newspaper in 1979.
Tony Watson, who is a former Lawrence High School principal, will be honored as a "special contributor." During his tenure as assistant principal and principal at Lawrence High School from 1983 to 2000, he was the number one administrative fan for all sports and extra-curricular activities at the school.
He enjoyed watching the students perform on the field, in the pool, on the ice or on the court. It was his way of letting the students know that he appreciated what they were doing, and acknowledged that sports would enhance the lives of the students.
Finally, the 1974 Lawrence High School varsity baseball team is being inducted into the Lawrence High School Athletic Hall of Fame. The team’s overall record was 24-2, which is a team record for wins. Coached by Harry Conover, it won the Central Jersey Group II championship in 1974.
