Princeton fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire that broke out in the basement of a house at 59 Murray Place Monday afternoon. There were no injuries to firefighters or the occupants.
The fire was reported shortly after 4:30 p.m. by one of the occupants, who had smelled smoke, said Director of Emergency and Safety Services Robert Gregory. The smoke detectors were working, he said. The occupants evacuated the house.
When the volunteer firefighters arrived, they found a pile of clothing smoldering in the basement, Mr. Gregory said. There was heavy smoke pouring out of the rear of the building, he said. Firefighters had the fire knocked down in about 20 minutes.
