Congratulations to the Northern Burlington Marching Unit on their second place overall finish and color guard first place finish at their first competition of the season held at Burlington City on Sept. 27. The marching unit is led on to the field by drum majors Jason Wylie, Liz Porter, and Joey DiRuggieri. The color guard captains are Megan Mills, Jen Knoll, and Taylor Borgstrom.
Columbus Girl Scout Troop 22253 is collecting flags no longer suitable to represent the country. The girls will have an official flag retirement ceremony in the spring. Those with old flags can drop them off at the Bordentown Library at 18 E. Union St. or the Mansfield Township offices at 3135 Route 206. The Columbus Grange will be having a financial planning and retirement seminar at its monthly meeting on Thursday, Oct. 9. Are you close to turning 65? Do you know what to expect? The Columbus Cemetery Company wants to thank all who participated in the "Beef and Beer" held at the Corner House on Sept. 20.
It was a great success. It just shows what can be done when a town comes together.

Who knows about Walter Bowne?
He was a well-known local farmer, electrician and poet. Born in 1889, he was inventive, generous and a friend to many in the Columbus/Mansfield Township area where he resided. His unique personality in addition to his talent for writing poetry for special occasions called attention to him. Anyone with information about Walter Bowne is asked to help the Columbus Grange by contributing any of his poems, photos or stories towards a book, which will be sold as a fundraiser to benefit the Grange. The Northern Burlington County Regional High School Band Boosters will host a holiday craft show on Sunday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Franklin Firehouse on Route 206. The cost for crafters to exhibit is $25 and the cost for vendors is $50 per 8-foot space. Those purchasing a space on or before Sept. 15 will be entitled to a $5 discount. The event will feature a homemade breakfast and lunch items, desserts and holiday goodies for purchase.
