Boy Scout plans installation of Disc Golf Course in park

Eagle Scout candidate David Wolverton is turning one of his passions into something others can enjoy.

An avid player of disc golf, David has designed the new 18-hole Thompson Park Disc Golf Course in Monroe.

“I am going to be installing a white and a blue course layout, and I am working directly with [accredited disc-golf course designer] Adam Harris to finalize a gold championship layout. This course is going to be the biggest in New Jersey at par 64 — 7,913 feet for the blue layout,” said David, a member of Boy Scout Troop 132, East Brunswick.

Despite New Jersey being No. 1 in the nation for population density, there are currently just nine 18-hole disc-golf courses in the state.

David said he believes the sport will expand in popularity as people traveling through the region will be able to access the Thompson Park course, which is in a central location and just 2 miles from the New Jersey Turnpike.

David is taking on all the responsibilities and funding efforts to install the new course.
