SOUTH BRUNSWICK — Starting this week, Fresh Ponds Road will be closed between Route 130 and Rhode Hall Road for approximately seven months due to the replacement of a bridge.
The bridge is a quarter-mile east of Route 130, according to an advisory police sent out on Nixle.
The roadway is a main east-west artery for people traveling from the East Brunswick area to Route 522. The roadway handles approximately 2,500 motorists daily, with its heaviest usage during morning and evening rush hours, police said.
Police were present the first day of the road closure on Sept. 29, and detours will be clearly marked.
Motorists can use alternatives including Route 535 or Route 130 to get around the road closure.
Residences from No. 1-79 will be accessible from Route 130, and residences from No. 81-133 will be accessible from Deans Rhode Hall Road.
Arrangements have already been made for mail, school bus transportation and garbage pickup.
