Jackson resident facing DWI charge after crash

MANALAPAN — A resident of Jackson was charged with driving while intoxicated following his involvement in a motor vehicle incident on Route 9 on Sept. 6.

Police said that at 7:02 p.m., Patrolman Eric Voorand responded to Route 9 south for a report of an individual who was operating a vehicle in an erratic manner.

While the officer was en route to the scene, it was reported that the vehicle was involved in a crash. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the vehicle was involved in a motor vehicle accident about a half-mile away and had left the scene of the crash.

The vehicle stopped in the parking lot of a restaurant on Route 9 south near Taylors Mills Road because it had a flat tire and could not be driven any further.

The driver, Christopher Saunders, 38, of Jackson, was charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain lane and operating an unsafe vehicle.

In other incidents reported by police:

 Police are investigating a burglary that occurred at a home on Pence Road between Aug. 22 and 24. The resident reported that a large amount of jewelry and several credit cards were taken from the home. The credit cards were subsequently used to make transactions in Middlesex County. A suspect was observed using the stolen credit cards, and police are attempting to identify the suspect.

 On Sept. 3 at 8:40 p.m., one black male and two black females entered Marshalls, Route 9 south. The individuals filled several bags with merchandise from the store and left the premises, according to police. A fourth individual was waiting in the parking lot in a white Chevrolet van. The three individuals fled the store with the stolen merchandise and entered the van. While they were fleeing the store, a customer identified as a 51-year-old female was struck by one of the bags filled with merchandise and sustained a minor injury. The van fled the scene in an unknown direction.

 On Sept. 7 at 4 p.m., Patrolman Matthew Meyler responded to Iris Circle for a report of a suspicious vehicle. Upon further investigation, Matthew D. Feit, 23, of Manalapan, and Paul M. Pawlik, 22, of Manalapan, were located in a wooded area marked by “No Trespassing” signs. Both individuals were allegedly found to be in possession of a controlled dangerous substance believed to be heroin. Feit was also found to be in possession of two hypodermic needles, police said. Both men were processed and released.
