MANVILLE SENIOR CORNER: Oct. 2

The Manville Senior Citizens will not have a meeting Oct. 9.
Instead, there will be an Oktoberfest on Friday, Oct. 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Knob Hill section of Colonial Park in Franklin.
Entertainment will be provided by Josie Mescallado, who will perform show tunes, popular and classical music at 11:30 a.m. Jimmy D will provide music for the afternoon. Elmer’s Catering will supply the German food. The menu includes red cabbage, spaetzle, roast pork loin, bratwurst, potato pancakes, applesauce, apple strudel and birch beer.
Tickets are $5 for members and $10 for guests. Tickets can be obtained by calling Phil Petrone at 908-526-2948.
The Manville Senior Citizens meet at noon the second Thursday of each month at the VFW on Washington Avenue.
Residents of Manville age 50 and older are eligible for membership. Also, persons who do not remain residents of Manville are eligible for membership. October is the last month to join as membership closes until the Jan. 8 meeting.
Nick Trilone will collect 2015 dues at the Nov. 13 meeting.
The election for officers for 2015 will be held at the November meeting.
Reminder to seniors: The adult walking program will start Tuesday, Oct. 14, and end Thursday, April 30. Walking time is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Manville High School. The fee is $10; register at the Manville Senior Center at 908-526-0175 or at the Recreation Department during regular hours. Contact the recreation office at 908-725-9478, ext. 121 or 126, with questions.
Canned goods or nonperishable food items will continue to be collected before each meeting. Remember to bring one item per member to stock the Food Bank.
Blood pressure screening is held before the beginning of each meeting for members, starting at 11:30 a.m.
The executive board will continue to hold its meetings the Thursday prior to the regular meeting.
Recreation events
Atlantic City — The bus leaves at 9 a.m. from the VFW parking lot the second Wednesday of each month for Harrah’s Casino. The next trip is Oct. 15.
The cost is $5, of which $20 will be returned. The second Wednesday schedule will be in effect for Nov. 12 and Dec. 10 with the same cost and return. This trip is open to the public.

Tues., Dec. 2 — Trip to Caesars in Atlantic City to see the "Spirit of Christmas" show. Cost is $72, which includes ticket to the 3 p.m. show, buffet and $20 back. Contact Jo Pschar at 908-722-0156. This is open to the public.
