Sept. 27 victories
On Sept. 27, the Solebury School and South Hunterdon Regional High School boys and girls soccer teams battled for the annual River Cup.
In the opening contest the SHR Girls quickly surged to a 5-0 halftime lead and added an additional one in the second half.
The goals were scored by Kayla Marriott and Tara Mershon who each had two for the game, Abbi Garrison and Charlotte Smith.
Solebury settled down in the second half led by Junior Captain Fullback Max Brewington and Goalkeeper Vikki Rueda-Juarez. SHR Goalkeeper Janae Davis recorded the shutout.
The Boys’ teams faced off in the nightcap and the scoring opened early when Junior Captain Jacob Von Giebel finished on a long pass in the sixth minute by Senior Captain Dario Sabidussi.
The only other scoring in the first half was on a penalty kick by SHR Senior Captain Brandon Panetta giving them a 2-0 lead.
In the second half Solebury came on strong with goals by Milo Luciano and Dylan Foley. Both were headers assisted by Mattew Ludak..
SHR claimed victory on the game-winner by Antonio Gasparro, who was assisted by Von Giebel.
Gabe Kass was in the nets for Solebury, while goal-tending duty for SHR was split between Robert Tomenchok, who started, and Cole Zuromski who played the second half.
