While the boys’ football team usually gets the limelight during the fall athletic season, several girls’ teams are working hard to bring victories home.
The South Brunswick High School Girl’s Varsity Volleyball team got off to a smashing start with a 7-1 record.
On Sept. 23, the Lady Vikings played the East Brunswick Bears and were victorious in two matches.
Besides winning against East Brunswick, the South Brunswick Team has won games against Piscataway, Iselin Kennedy, Colonia, West Windsor-Plainsboro North and South and Hopewell Valley.
Its only loss in the season thus far came in a very close battle against Old Bridge.
The team is led by Head Coach Shaun Ruymen.
The Lady Vikings hope to continue to play well and have an exceptional season.
The South Brunswick Girl’s JV Soccer Team extended its record to 5-2 on Oct. 2 by beating Monroe 1-0.
Junior Forward Moriya Frankel scored the lone goal with an assist by Sophomore Midfielder Samia Baig.
The Varsity Field Hockey Team is holding with a 5-5 record this season after dropping a game to Monroe last week 4-1.
Danielle Gallagher leads the team with 13 goals.
Senior captain and goalie Lizzie Ruedemann has 88 saves on the season.
Senior captain and midfielder Eileen Rolwood paced the defense along with Junior captain and defender GiGi Powers.
Last week the Girls Varsity Tennis team competed in the GMC team tournament.
All seven players advanced to the semi-finals.
Winning championships at 1st and 2nd doubles were Avni Bali, Prathyusha Pandu, Nikita Roy and Sneha Rampalli.
Placing 2nd was 3rd singles player Neeharika Kishore and placing 3rd was Anisha Malhotra.
Rashmi Venkatarama placed 4th at 1st singles.
As a result of the individual results the Vikings tied JP Stevens to share the team title.
This is Girls Tennis first ever-1st place team title.
As the State Team tournament began, SB defeated Old Bridge 5-0 in the first round and was scheduled to play Marlboro on in the quarterfinal round this week.
The team’s record to date is 6-1.
