JACKSON — The Jackson Pathfinders, a volunteer trail preservation group sponsored by Jackson Township, is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year.
In 1999, a group of concerned citizens started the Pathfinders in an effort to preserve and maintain the beautiful trails of Jackson for multiple recreational uses, according to a press release.
Pathfinders volunteers have marked, mapped, cleared and maintained Jackson trails. Detailed trail maps and more information about the trails and the Pathfinders are found at www.jacksonpathfinders.org.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 12, the Pathfinders are having a trail work day at the Silver Stream Trail, 255 Frank Applegate Road, and the Steve Kitay Living Trail, accessed via the Silver Stream Trail.
Volunteers are needed to help with trail maintenance, mainly trimming high grass and brush and replacing missing trail markers.
Volunteers should meet at 10 a.m. at the gravel parking lot off Frank Applegate Road.
It is recommended that volunteers wear long pants with work shoes and bring work gloves, drinking water and insect repellent.
Tools will be provided, but if possible, bring a pruning saw, lopping shears, or clippers. In case of rain that day, visit the Pathfinders website before leaving home to determine if the event has been canceled.
The next regular monthly meeting of the Jackson Pathfinders will take place on Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Jackson municipal building. The Pathfinders are always seeking volunteers to help with general trail maintenance and have opportunities for scouts and other community service groups.
For more information about volunteering and to submit an online inquiry form, see the Volunteering page on the Pathfinders website or email [email protected].
