Jazz concert slated at local arts center

Cabaret for Life will present “Gabrielle Stravelli: A Jazz Concert with Dr. Art Topilow” at 8 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center, 100 Grant Ave., Deal Park. A portion of the proceeds will benefit medical causes in the community.

Stravelli, a Jersey Shore native who now lives and performs in Manhattan, has garnered critical acclaim with her original songs and unique take on material from the new pieces and classic standards by artists as varied as Pink Floyd, Duke Ellington, Dolly Parton and Johnny Mercer.

She has been compared to Ella Fitzgerald and has appeared as a soloist with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, New Jersey Festival Orchestra, Cincinnati Pops and others.

Stravelli will be accompanied by jazz pianist Art Topilow, who has performed with the Cleveland Pops. He has collaborated in concert with Christine Ebersole, Bernadette Peters and jazz legend Dick Hyman.

Stravelli and Topilow will be backed up by a jazz trio featuring bassist Patrick O’Leary, guitarist Doug Clark and percussionist Jordan Young.

Tickets are $30 and are available at www.axelrodartscenter.com. For more information, call 732-858-8106.
