LAMBERTVILLE: Man says he was assaulted, cut by knife

City police reports

A Lambertville resident reported he was assaulted and cut with a knife shortly after midnight on Monday.
The victim, a 31-year-old male, said he was smoking a cigarette in the area of Buttonwood Street and the canal path when he was grabbed from behind.
The victim said he fought off two or three males who had allegedly grabbed for his wallet. In the process he was cut on the arm. The suspects fled. They were described as speaking Spanish to each other during the attack. The victim went to the hospital for stitches and treatment; the hospital contacted the police.
Lt. Robert Brown and Detective Michael Miloszar are investigating with the county prosecutor’s office. Anyone with information is asked to contact city police at 609-397-3132. Callers may remain anonymous.

— A Lambertville man was arrested Sunday for allegedly threatening a business owner with a knife.
Patrolman Anthony Memolo was called to the area of Lilly Street and 12:25 p.m. after the victim was able to finds safety in his restaurant and call the police, authorities said. Michael Williams, 52, was arrested in the area and police said they recovered an alleged weapon used to threaten the victim.
Mr. Williams was charged with terroristic threats, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and disorderly conduct. He was later lodged in Hunterdon County Jail on $10,000 bail.
— A 12-year-old boy reported he was approached by a bearded man in a older blue pickup at 6:10 p.m. Saturday in the area of Route 29. The boy said the man, who had a gray beard several inches long and was estimated to be 40 to 60 years old, asked the boy to come over to him, police said, but the boy ran off. No further incidents were reported in the area. Sgt. Michael O’Rourke investigated.
— Patrolman Bast stopped a vehicle driven by Mark Stella, 46, of Bordentown on Sunday and subsequently charged him with driving under the influence. The officer said the vehicle was being driven erratically on Route 29 near the Golden Nugget Flea Market.
He was also charged with reckless driving, method of turning at an intersection and traffic on market lanes. He was released with a court date.
— On Oct. 7 a package was found on the Delaware and Raritan Canal towpath. Patrolman Memolo recovered the package, which contained computer software, The package and contents were returned to the owner.
— Lambertville police issued Matthew J. Jones, 52, of Lambertville a special complaint for littering on Oct. 1.
Lt. Robert Brown responded to a call about illegal dumping off North Franklin Street. Police said Mr. Jones was found to have dumped brush and tree limbs into the creek behind 96 North Franklin St.
Lt. Brown issued a complaint to Mr. Jones for violation of city ordinance for littering in a public place.
— Alina Ciubotaru, 18, of Philadelphia, was charged with possession of marijuana on Oct. 2.
While conducting security checks in the Lambertville Municipal Court, Special Officer Michael Bender found Ms. Ciubotaru was in possession of marijuana located inside her purse. Ms. Ciubotaru was later arrested, charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance and released with a pending court date.
