Somerville, N.J. n United Reformed Church, “The Church on Main Street” will kick off its 2014-2015 Concert Series this Sunday, October 19 at 4:00 p.m. with a performance by Stardust Big Band.
Seventeen of the area’s best musicians will play dynamic songs from the Big Band era, and some truly great arrangements written in the last few years. You will hear classic hits by Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Woody Herman, rhythmic Latin numbers and a collection of songs from Broadway shows.
Since 2007, United Reformed Church’s annual concert series offers six or seven concerts each year, that run the gamut from classical to jazz to contemporary Christian. Other upcoming concerts include “Stars and Promises” by Peter Mayer, former guitarist for Jimmy Buffet’s Coral Reefer Band, and the Central Jersey Symphony Orchestra. “Our Sanctuary has wonderful acoustics, so performing groups love to perform here”, said Paul Dickey, United’s Director of Music.
