"I’ve walked by that beautiful old house a hundred times and always wondered what it was like inside."
Bryce Sanders has heard so many people say that to him that he has lost count. "Yes. We get that a lot," said Mr. Sanders, who chairs the New Hope Historical Society’s Membership Committee.
The old house they are talking about is the 1784 Georgian Style Parry Mansion on South Main Street across from Bucks County Playhouse.
It is clear that more folks have begun venturing into the Parry Mansion. More than 2,000 people toured the home of Benjamin Parry this past summer and membership in the society has topped 500 for the first time in its 56-year history.
Parry is considered the "father" of New Hope. When he rebuilt his mill after a devastating fire in 1790 and named them the New Hope Mills, the town, then called Coryell’s Ferry, eventually became "New Hope."
On Oct. 23 from 7-9 p.m., the Historical Society will open the doors of Parry’s mansion to anyone who would like to inquire about membership.
Folks who visit the mansion that evening will meet the society’s board members and hear about the activities they are planning to present over the next year. Wine and light refreshments will be served. Call the Historical Society at 215-862-5652 or [email protected] for reservations.
