– Fundraiser to celebrate the arts set for Oct. 17

RED BANK — Monmouth Arts will honor Becky Weinberg and family and the Count Basie Theatre at its “Inspire, Create, Celebrate — The Arts” cocktail party fundraiser from 7-10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, at McLoone’s Pier House, 1 Ocean Ave., Long Branch. Proceeds will benefit arts education and community arts programs and services.

Kathy Donnelly, owner of Beauregard Gallery in Rumson, is co-chair of the event along with Pam Marvin, Monmouth Arts’ board vice chair.

Each year, Monmouth Arts honors artists, arts organizations and supporters who enrich the lives of those who live and work in Monmouth County. Becky Weinberg is being honored as an arts supporter.

The Count Basie Theatre is being recognized for its commitment to making the theater a place where the community comes together to experience talent from around the corner and the world.

The evening will include a pop-up gallery of local artists, which is curated by Donnelly; classic rock music performed by the youth in Count Basie Theatre’s Rockit! program; centerpieces and a Creation Station by found-object artist Lisa Bagwell; and dance music provided by the Thom White Band.

Monmouth Arts invites those who value the arts to enjoy a fun evening that will include lavish hors d’oeuvres and great entertainment featuring emerging and established artists from Monmouth County. This is Monmouth Arts’ major fundraiser of the year.

– Group sets trip to observe bird migration

The Monmouth County Audubon Society has scheduled an autumn bird walk for Sunday, Oct. 19, at the Sandy Hook unit of the Gateway National Recreation Area park, 128 S. Hartshorne Drive, Highlands. Participants should meet 10 a.m. in the parking lot of the former Visitor Center.

The peninsula of Sandy Hook attracts migrating raptors, shorebirds and songbirds due to the abundance of food and areas of suitable habitat. This makes Sandy Hook an excellent place to observe many species of migrating birds in a limited area. The bird “guest list” changes daily at Sandy Hook, depending on weather conditions and the food supply.

The trip will be led by members of the Monmouth County Audubon Society who are familiar with Sandy Hook and its birds. Advance registration is not required for this free trip, which is open to all.

The Monmouth County Audubon Society, a chapter of the National Audubon Society, is dedicated to the enjoyment and study of nature, wildlife conservation, habitat protection and education. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month September through May at the Church of the Nativity. For more information, visit www.monmouthaudubon.org.
