MANVILLE: Possible squatter investigated

Police blotter, week of Oct. 6-12

Borough Administrator Gary Garwacke notified police at 3:14 p.m. Oct. 6 that an abandoned residence on Green Street may have squatters inside. Patrols checked, found no one and canvassed the neighbors for information. The DPW was told about an unsecured door.
— Kenneth Fortunato, 18, of Hillsborough was charged with shoplifting at 9:18 p.m. Oct. 7 and released on his own recognizance.
— Someone was reported to be banging on a piece of wood in the backyard of an abandoned house on South 16th Avenue at 5:36 a.m. Oct. 8. Patrols checked and found no one there.
— It was reported at 8:10 a.m. Oct. 8 that the driver’s side tires on two vehicles on Green Street were slashed in overnight hours. The value of four tires was about $440.
— David Noble 21 of Bridgewater reported at 1:55 p.m. Oct. 8 that his blue 2007 VW Rabbit was stolen from JFK Boulevard in the past two hours. It was entered into national crime computers and a county alarm was broadcast. He was charged with obstruction of justice on a criminal complaint, for allegedly lying to a police officer in an effort to conceal his information, connecting him to a criminal act, police said. He was processed and released.
— A man from West Camplain Road said at 1:27 p.m. Oct. 8 that he believed one of the two poodles he was watching for his stepdaughter was stolen. The 4-year-old white poodle was in a fenced area and was wearing no tags. The value was put at $200.
— A North 14th Avenue man reported at 3:51 p.m. Oct. 9 that was contacted by a company identifying itself as the IRS. He said he thought it was a scam and said he didn’t send any money.
— Michael Giordano, 21, of Manville was charged with shoplifting and possession of burglary tools at Walmart at 11:29 am Oct. 10. He was apprehended while he was walking away. He tried to take four GPS valued at 729.88. He was released.
— Angela Kelly, 48, Bridgewater charged with shoplifting a flashlight and women’s clothing, worth a total of $78.76 at Walmart at 1:11 p.m. Oct. 10. She was released on her own say-so.
— A homeowner of North 13th Avenue homeowner was charged with careless driving after he drove his vehicle into the doors of his detached garage at 2:34 p.m. Oct. 10. The structure deemed satisfactory, but homeowner was advised to brace walls for added support.
