The Millstone Rockets continued their march toward a State Cup Championship in dramatic fashion as they defeated West Morris Blizzard in sudden death penalty kicks. Starting with 64 teams throughout the state, the Rockets are now one of eight teams left. The Rockets rallied from an 0-2 halftime deficit to tie the Blizzard at 2-2, and that’s the way the game stayed through two overtimes.
The teams were still tied, 3-3, after the first round of penalty kicks with goals by Olivia Denny Nicole Winouski, and Maddie Keefeg for Millstone.
Entering the sudden death goal round of penalty kicks, Hallie Conaghan scored next for the Rockets. West Morris needed to score to continue sudden death, but Morgan Bell made her third and final save on penalties to send the Rockets through to the quarterfinals.
The Rockets will continue their march Sunday (Oct. 19) at home when they face Northern Burlington Academy.
