Details: On November 5 at 7 p.m., Midland will host a “Learning Institute” seminar about community housing and supports for people with developmental and intellectual disabilities. The presentation will provide the most up-to-date, accurate, and comprehensive information directly from two of the highest level executives in supportive housing in the state. We are very pleased to have both Janel Winter, the Director of Housing for DDD and Gail Levinson, Director of Supportive Housing Association of New Jersey with us regarding this highly important topic and seemingly complicated process of gaining appropriate living opportunities for individuals with disabilities. If you plan to attend this very informative presentation, please RSVP to 908-722-8222 x103 or [email protected] by Nov. 3, 2014.
Founded in 1960, The Midland School, located in North Branch, N.J., is a nationally recognized, nonprofit comprehensive special education school dedicated to the individual, social, emotional, academic and career needs of children with developmental disabilities. The school currently serves students ages 5 through 21 from 14 counties in New Jersey. In addition to traditional academic subjects, Midland provides speech and occupational therapy, counseling and social skill instruction. The school’s “school-to-work” transition program places Midland graduates in competitive employment positions in their home communities after graduation. Continuing social and recreational activities are available for graduates through an active Alumni Association.
Midland offers job training to graduates and other adults through Midland Adult Services (MAS), a sister corporation of the Midland School, which offers a widely respected employment training and job placement program. Partnering with more than 50 local businesses and corporations, MAS provides on the job training experiences for 94 adults. In addition, MAS operates 6 group homes in Somerset County. To support these initiatives, the Midland Foundation was established in 1980 to raise funds for the school and MAS. For more information, visit www.midlandschool.org.
