BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP — A new glass-blowing business has made its home in town.
Coywolf Glassworks is located at 5 Mission Road and officially opened its doors Oct. 11.
"The glass-blowing industry is booming right now, and we are really excited to be a part of it," said owner Bruce Ciancia. "I started glass blowing about 14 years ago after seeing someone at a Phish music festival in Indiana doing it."
He transformed what started out as a hobby with a friend into a business.
"It started out as a hobby, and I finally decided to just go for it and see if I could make a business out of it," he said. "My friend and I were intrigued and decided to buy a torch and kiln and basically taught ourselves."
His shop sells some pieces from his friend — Mike DiPano of Distilled Art Glass in Vermont.
The store offers a variety of products, including jewelry, vases, ornaments, hummingbird feeders, terrariums and wine-stoppers. There is also a separate room for patrons 19 years old and older who are interested in glass pipes.
"The pricing really depends on how much time I spend making the piece; how much glass and color is used," he said, adding that small jars and pendants range from $20 to $35 and larger vases, which could take a couple hours to make, cost $50.
"The most important thing to remember is that I make every piece in the store, and no two pieces will be exactly alike," he said.
He continued, "So far we’ve had positive feedback from customers who are really excited to learn about the whole process, which is why I can’t wait to set up the torch in the back room as soon as possible."
The store is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 9 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
"We really hope people will take the time to stop in and see everything for themselves," he said.
