Citizens Against the PennEast Pipeline
As the Nov. 13 PennEast Pipeline open house at South Hunterdon Regional High School in West Amwell approaches, we wanted to make sure that you’re aware that there is a Hopewell Township Citizens group (HTCAPP) that has formed to help you navigate the process and understand the issues associated with the proposed PennEast pipeline.
(The session will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the high school’s gymnasium, 301 Mt. Airy-Harbourton Road Lambertville).
This will be the only local opportunity to meet with PennEast in a forum like this. PennEast is holding three open houses in Pennsylvania, but only one in New Jersey. The open house will be structured so that individuals can meet one-on-one with PennEast representatives at various stations. Categories will include safety and operations, land, environment and engineering, pipeline construction and restoration.
PennEast has sent out letters of invitation to landowners in the path of the pipeline. It’s important to know this is a pro-pipeline forum and is designed to accentuate the positives, without necessarily pointing out any negatives. HTCAPP is committed to providing accurate information to support our neighbors, and to giving you a more complete perspective.
A representative from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) will also be at the open house to answer questions. FERC is the government agency that will decide whether to grant a permit to PennEast to construct and operate the pipeline.
We have created a HTCAPP Hotline and encourage you to reach out if you have any questions about the pipeline or have received a letter from PennEast. You can also contact us by email or get the latest information from our continuously updated web site.
HTCAPP Hotline: 609-350-2220;
HTCAPP Email: [email protected]www.HTCAPP.org.
Here are some basic guidelines we recommend for the open house:
— Show up – Let PennEast and FERC know that we care and are not apathetic about our community.
— Know the facts. Reach out to HTCAPP before the open house.
— Do not sign anything (this advice is pretty obvious, but we thought we should mention it.) Standing together and saying ‘no’ to PennEast is a powerful defense and it’s never a good idea to sign anything without legal representation.
—Be respectful. Questions, comments, and heartfelt opinions are heard better when they are voiced with calm conviction.
While PennEast is holding only one informational open house in New Jersey, HTCAPP is joining with Hopewell Township government to offer a series of educational discussions on the pipeline. The first of these will be held in the near future.
The best defense against the PennEast Pipeline is a well-educated and informed public. Together we can stop PennEast. Please let us know how we can help.
