SOUTH BRUNSWICK — Residents who subscribed to the Police Department’s Nixle page are being asked to download a new app designed for community conversations.
Nixle provides emergency, crime and community information to the public.
During superstorm Sandy two years ago, South Brunswick police and the community learned how important reliable communication was between residents and first responders, particularly when a large part of the tri-state area was left with no power, limited fuel and food, and communication difficulties.
During and after the storm, South Brunswick police used Nixle and Twitter, while volunteers handed out flyers to get information out quickly.
“Information was key to keeping residents safe and healthy,” police Lt. James Ryan said.
The department has partnered with Nixle for the past four years.
South Brunswick Nixle subscribers are encouraged to start a conversation on the new app about anything that is important in their neighborhoods.
