SOUTH BRUNSWICK: Cops nab alleged shooter

South Brunswick Police officers arrested a man after pursuing his vehicle for allegedly was fleeing a shooting in North Brunswick early Saturday morning.
Police said that at 2:15 a.m., police were alerted by North Brunswick Police that a 2005 Nissan Titan pickup heading Route 1 south may have been involved in a road rage shooting.
North Brunswick Police reported that the suspect in the pickup had allegedly fired shots at another motorist in that town and a witness was following the pickup truck.
Patrolman Jason Gassman was at Route 1 and Route 522 when he observed the Nissan Titan pass at a high rate of speed, followed closely by the witness’s vehicle, police said.
Officer Gassman, along with Patrolman Bryan Sites, activated their emergency lights and sirens and began to attempt to catch up to the pickup.
The pickup continued southbound for three miles, then made a sudden right turn off the highway just before the Plainsboro border, police said.
It then allegedly went the wrong way onto Independence Way jug handle.
The truck’s driver turned off his headlights and jumped a curb, coming to rest in a grassy area of the jug handle, police said.
The officers ordered the driver to lie on the ground and took him into custody without further incident, police said.
Police identified the driver as Timothy Soto, 28, of Houston, Texas.
Officers reportedly recovered a loaded handgun from the pickup truck.
Mr. Soto was turned over to North Brunswick Police for additional investigation into the shooting, police said.
In South Brunswick, Mr. Soto was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, eluding police and numerous motor vehicle violations.
On the South Brunswick charges his bail was set at $10,000 and he was lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick.
