Jeffry Houir of Douglassville, Pa., waived extradition in Pennsylvania and is being held in the Hunterdon County Jail on terrorism and robbery charges.
Police said Mr. Houir entered the Affinity Federal Credit Union on Oct. 31 and said he had a bomb. He then demanded cash from bank employees before fleeing, police said.
Mr. Houir’s vehicle was spotted by police patrols and officers from the West Amwell and Lambertville police departments and detectives from the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office pursued the defendant into Pennsylvania. Mr. Houir crashed his vehicle and fled on foot before being arrested by Newtown, Pa., police.
A joint investigation by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office, the Raritan Township Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation resulted in the filing of charges of robbery and committing an act of terrorism, both first-degree crimes. The defendant has charges pending in Pennsylvania and may also face federal charges.
Mr. Houir was transported back to New Jersey on Nov. 4, and is lodged at the Hunterdon County Jail in lieu of $750,000 bail. Mr. Houir went before Superior Court Judge Stephen B. Rubin for his first court appearance on Nov. 5.
