Come Away: A Musical Journey for Violas da Gamba to Renaissance Europe and Beyond will be performed at 2 p.m. at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch Library, 2751 Brunswick Pike. A musical concert for violas da gamba will be performed by the early music ensemble LaSpirita. The music will include Renaissance and Baroque music by Byrd, Marenzio, Monteverdi, Bach, Pachelbel, and more. The ensemble has performed regularly in New Jersey and Pennsylvania for 20 years. "The Book Thief," by Marcus Zusak will be discussed at the Morning Book Club at 10 a.m. at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch Library, 2751 Brunswick Pike. Nazi Germany, 1939. Liesel Meminger is a foster girl living outside of Munich, who scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist—books. With the help of her foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement. "Transcendental," by James Gunn will be discussed at the Science Fiction Book Club at 7 p.m. at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch Library, 2751 Brunswick Pike. "Transcendental" is a space adventure that explores the nature of what unifies all beings. The novel’s structure is loosely based upon Chaucer’s "Canterbury Tales." Riley, a human ex-soldier, joins an interstellar, multi-race pilgrimage in the hopes of finding and destroying the Prophet, a being who promises transcendence to another spiritual plane at the end of the long journey. Princeton Learning Cooperative will be screening "The Field Biologist," a film by Jared Flesher that raises some fundamental questions: How important is a formal education? What risks are worth taking? What should you do with your life? What makes someone a scientist? The screening will be at 7 p.m. at the Lawrence Library, 2751 Brunswick Pike, Lawrence. Free and open to the public.

A Fiction Writing Workshop will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch Library, 2751 Brunswick Pike. The class will focus on style. Participants will develop understanding and practice such techniques as: avoiding jump shifts, employing dialogue and action to carry meaning to the reader, deleting adverbs and using stronger verbs.
