A new list of veteran-friendly merchants and organizations has been made available through the Middlesex County Clerk’s Office.
The Veteran Friendly Merchants and Organizations booklet contains the names of businesses and companies that offer discounts to veterans with proof of military service. It can be used in conjunction with the County Service ID Card, which is available free of charge to all U.S. military veterans living in the county.
“Filing for this new card creates a permanent record in the county clerk’s office in the event your DD-214 [discharge papers] becomes lost or damaged, and is needed as proof for property tax deductions or for V.A. benefits,” said Middlesex County Clerk Elaine M. Flynn.
Veterans can get their service card and booklet by visiting the county clerk’s office in the Middlesex County Administration Building, 75 Bayard St., New Brunswick, on weekdays from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. There is no charge for either benefit, and no appointment is required.
Veterans must bring discharge papers along with a driver’s license, business mail or property tax bill. Married females requesting service cards listing a name other than what appears on the DD-214 must also present legal documents that show that name change.
