Readings to celebrate Parker’s varied works

LONG BRANCH — The Long Branch Arts Council invites the public to an evening of readings from Dorothy Parker’s writings at 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Long Branch Free Public Library, 328 Broadway. Guest readers will select from Parker’s comic poetry, critical reviews, correspondence and quotable commentary.

The event will also feature special guest speaker, Kevin C. Fitzpatrick of the Dorothy Parker Society, who will read from his forthcoming book, “The Algonquin Round Table New York: A Historical Guide.” The book chronicles the legendary literary circle of which Parker was a part.

Parker will be inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame Class of 2014 ceremony at Asbury Park’s Convention Hall on Nov. 13. She will join Brian Williams, Dizzy Gillespie, Patrick Ewing, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Jim Florio, James Gandolfini and others during a program that celebrates the accomplishments of Garden State citizens.

Following the conclusion of the library program, attendees are invited to meet for an informal cocktail reception, with Parkerthemed specials, at The Mix Lounge, 71 Brighton Ave.
