Schnurr, DiBenedetto win Freehold Borough seats

 George Schnurr and Michael DiBenedetto George Schnurr and Michael DiBenedetto FREEHOLD — Two members of the Borough Council ran in an uncontested race for new three-year terms and were reelected to their seats on the governing body in the Nov. 4 election.

No Republicans filed to run for office in Freehold Borough.

Democrats Michael DiBenedetto, 1,183 votes, and George Schnurr, 1,139 votes, were re-elected and will begin their new terms in January.

The results are unofficial until they are certified by Monmouth County.

DiBenedetto, 55, will begin his sixth term on the governing body. He is a lifelong resident of the borough.

DiBenedetto said he is looking forward to working with Mayor Nolan Higgins and his fellow council members for the next three years.

“I am also thankful to the voters and proud to serve the people of Freehold Borough for another three years,” he said.

Schnurr, 57, was appointed to the council in January 2008. In November 2008, he was elected to a three-year term. In 2011, Schnurr won his second three-year term. He will begin serving his third full term on the governing body in January.

“I am humbled by the voters’ confidence in Councilman DiBenedetto and myself and overwhelmed by the level of support,” Schnurr said. “Public service in Freehold Borough is a great way to help others and to contribute your knowledge, experience and skills for the betterment of your community, and it is a great way to carry out your vision for Freehold Borough.

“It is a privilege and honor for me to serve, in this capacity, for the next three years. I believe in Freehold Borough and pledge to devote my time and energy to keeping Freehold Borough a great place to live,” he said.
