MILLTOWN — Two incumbents and one newcomer will fill the three seats that were available in last week’s Board of Education election.

Incumbent JoAnne Demetrio garnered the most votes, with 1,019, followed by incumbent Christine Mehr, who received 951 votes. Newcomer James E. Lloyd garnered 815 votes.

Incumbent Felipe Zambrana Jr. was unsuccessful in his bid for a second term, receiving 533 votes.

Mehr said she is thrilled and honored to be re-elected to the board.

“I look forward to working with the board to maximize our resources to provide a superb quality education to the students of Milltown,” she said.

Lloyd said he is incredibly excited to have been given the opportunity to serve.

“I truly appreciate the support of everyone who voted for me,” he said. “Since I haven’t yet served on the Milltown board or any other, initially I’m going to focus on learning as much as I can about the district, the board and all the challenges that the town faces, and how the schools and the community address them.”

Lloyd said he is eager to take on the learning process to become an effective board member.

“I’ll work hard to make sure that I can serve the community as best I can,” he said.
