The South Brunswick school district will be assisting the United States Marine Corps Reserve’s annual Toys for Tots program by placing collection boxes in all district schools prior to the Christmas holiday.
Buddy Thomas, a retired district maintenance employee, union representative and a Marine veteran, appeared before the entire South Brunswick Board of Education recently to make his annual request.
Mr. Thomas asked the board for permission to place collection boxes at all 12 district schools. The request was placed in the form of a motion and approved by a vote of 9-0 immediately.
Mr. Thomas said that he would maintain the project and, at the end of the collection period, coordinate the delivery of the toys collected to both Robert Wood Johnson and St. Peters Children’s Hospitals in New Brunswick.
According to the collection’s website, the program “collects new, unwrapped toys during the holiday season for distribution to those less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.”
The objectives of the program is “to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable resources- our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year and to contribute to better communities in the future.
