WEST AMWELL: Breakfast boosts future farmers

Farms from around Hunterdon and beyond are donating food for the South Hunterdon Future Farmers of America’s Food to Table Breakfast, set for Sunday, Nov. 23, at the West Amwell Firehouse on Mt. Airy Road.
"The Farm to Table Breakfast is open to the community and we’re hoping for a good turnout," said Sue Charles of the South Hunterdon FFA, which is sponsoring the event.
Ms. Charles noted that South Hunterdon is the only high school in the county that still has an agricultural education program.
"All the proceeds of the breakfast will benefit the ag ed (agricultural education) and FFA programs at the high school," she said. "We’ll be featuring locally grown and raised foods, including eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, maple syrup, honey and more."
The FFA alumni raises money to support FFA members in the high school.
"The money we raise is used to send them to leadership conferences and to enable them to compete in state and national events in agricultural mechanics, dairy products, horticulture and other areas. The FFA Alumni helps with training in addition to the fundraising we do."
The Farm to Table Breakfast will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
"It should be a great event with great food," Ms. Charles said.
The cost of the breakfast will be $8 for adults and $5 for children under age 5. Advance tickets are available at [email protected].
The event is receiving strong support from the area’s agricultural community.
"Pleasant Run farm in West Amwell is donating food for the breakfast," Ms. Charles said. "So are Rocktown Orchards in West Amwell, the Tomenchok farm in West Amwell, Stony Brook Meadows in Hopewell Township, the Rutgers University Snyder Research Farm in Pittstown and Rosedale Mills in Hopewell Township."
Nearby Johanna Farms Lehigh Valley Dairy in Lansdale, Pa., will donate dairy products. Meats will come from Kasak Cuts in Doylestown, Pa.
