Ice rink opens for season in Edison

Middlesex County’s Roosevelt Park Family Ice Skating Rink, Edison, opened for its 11th season on Nov. 19.

Located at the Level Playing Fields Complex in Roosevelt Park, the rink’s hours of operation are: Wednesday through Friday, 5-9 p.m.; Saturdays and holidays, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (session 1), 2-5 p.m. (session 2) and 6-9 p.m. (session 3); Sundays, noon-3p.m. (session 1) and 4-7 p.m. (session 2). The rink is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, as well as Thanksgiving and Christmas. Per-session admission is $6 for adults; $5 for senior citizens and children 17 and under. Discounts are available for multisession passes and groups. Skate rental, with sizes ranging from toddler 8 to adult 15, are available for $5 per session, along with skate sharpening and locker rentals. Helmets are available for sale.

Accredited group and private lessons are offered, and the rink is available for birthday parties and private events. The Skate Zone Café offers a variety of hot and cold drinks and snacks, including chicken nuggets, hamburgers, pizza, mozzarella sticks and grilled cheese sandwiches.

“The ice skating rink is one of our most unique recreational facilities and is fun for the entire family,” said Freeholder Charles Tomaro, chair of the county’s Infrastructure Management Committee.

Last winter, the facility accommodated more than 12,000 skaters.
