Marlboro police targeting the wrong drivers

I am writing this letter after the tragic fatal accident that occurred on Nov. 13 on Route 18 south by the Tennent Road exit. I am extremely sorry for all the families involved.

As a result of this accident, the Marlboro police are having their officers park on the shoulder of Route 18 with their lights on for no apparent reason other than to trap drivers passing by and then pulling them over because they did not change lanes for an emergency vehicle.

I am an advocate for public safety, as I have two young daughters driving; however, because of this accident the Marlboro police have set up this dangerous trap to cash in on the revenue.

On Nov. 16, as I sat on the dark shoulder of Route 18 on a misty night waiting for the officer to check my credentials, I was passed by speeding tractor-trailers in the right lane along with at least 20 other cars, of which not one changed lanes to yield.

This act of law enforcement put my daughter and myself in danger as speeding cars and trucks passed by. If the Marlboro police are interested in road safety, then they should be petitioning the state to lower the speed limit along this stretch of road and ticket the speeders. Parked on the shoulder with their lights on for no reason at all just to pull people over will not solve the problems that caused the good Samaritan to die on Route 18.
