The New Egypt High School football team could only a muster one touchdown against an explosive Middlesex High School team, losing in the first round of the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group I playoffs on Nov. 15 by a 47-7 score.
That touchdown came on a 10-yard reception by Chris Tereszczyn from Alex Barnett. It was set up by a 40-yard kickoff return from Chris Simms that started off the second half.
In its third appearance in the state playoffs — with only one victory in its prior two trips — the Warriors were overwhelmed by the big-play capability of Middlesex (7-2), which scored four touchdowns on plays of 35 yards or more and had just under 500 yards of total offense. New Egypt (6-3) pulled to 26-7 on its touchdown before Middlesex answered back. Matt Hode scored three touchdowns for Middlesex on runs of 36, 53 and 57 yards.
New Egypt, which lost its second straight game, will host Bordentown Regional High School at 10 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day in its season finale.
