County college receives high marks

EDISON — Middlesex County College is among the nation’s top producers of associate degrees in education and criminal justice, according to a report in “Community College Week,” a higher-education newspaper.

The college graduated 70 education majors in 2013, making it 42nd in the nation, and 125 criminal justice majors, placing the college 33rd on the list.

In addition, 207 Asian-Americans graduated in 2013, making Middlesex 44th in the nation among community colleges with Asian-American graduates.

“That Middlesex ranks so high in these categories is significant when considering that the rankings are based on the number of degrees awarded regardless of the size of the college,” said Mark McCormick, vice president for academic and student affairs. “While Middlesex is among the largest community colleges in New Jersey, it is smaller than those in many other states across the nation.”

More than 1,100 community colleges offer associate degrees in the United States.
