Ruth (Tilton) Soden

Ruth (Tilton) Soden, 84, of Jamesburg, died Nov. 20 at her home surrounded by her family.

Born in Princeton, Mrs. Soden lived in Cranbury before moving to Jamesburg 67 years ago.

She was employed as a bookkeeper for many years with her husband at the Oliver L.E. Soden Agency, Jamesburg.

Mrs. Soden was a past president of the Jamesburg Fire Company Auxiliary; past president of the Jamesburg Board of Education; past president of the Hightstown bowling league; past noble grand and 50-year member of the Lady May Rebekah Lodge #94; 50- year member of the Morning Star #22 Order of the Eastern Star; past district deputy of the Mercer district; co-chairperson of the Jamesburg library charity ball; member of the Jamesburg PTA; member of the Middlesex County Juvenile Conference Committee; member of the 100th anniversary committee of the Borough of Jamesburg; Mrs. Claus for the Jamesburg Fire Department for 10 years; Mrs. Claus of the Borough of Jamesburg for five years; and on the troop committee of the Jamesburg Girl Scouts.

Mrs. Soden was predeceased by her husband, Oliver L.E. Soden, in 2006.

Surviving are her children Robert and his wife Dovie, of Monroe Township; Oliver L.E. III and his wife Sandra, of Bronx, N.Y.; Harold and his wife Carla, of Monroe Township; Sandra Dutcher and her husband Robert, of Englishtown; and her sister, Barbara Chamberlin, of Plainsboro; 12 grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were 5-8 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Lester Memorial Home, Jamesburg. A funeral service was held Nov. 24 at the Presbyterian Church of Jamesburg. Burial is in Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan.
