Manville Public Library has revived its Friends of the Library group.
President Ramon Henson of Somerset is excited the group is finally set to go.
"Our library is planning some renovations to make it even more inviting to the community, including a redesigned children’s center," he said. "We officers of the Friends of the Library are excited and energized to support the library. We want to offer even more programs and events next year, with the community’s help and support. I encourage all Manville residents to stop by and check out the library, and sign up to be a member of our Friends organization."
The Friends of Manville Library has four officers. Susan Asher is the vice president, Jen Aldea is secretary and Mary Ellen Day is treasurer. The officers and a few others have met over the past few months to get everything in order to get the organization up and running again. They needed to set the bylaws, file the necessary paperwork, set up bank accounts, etc. The organization is working on becoming a nonprofit 501c3.
The mission of the Friends of Manville Library is to help support the library in ways ranging from providing more programs for children and adults, raising funds for library materials and being an advocate for the library.
The officers welcome local businesses and the community to become members. Membership is for anyone who values the service of a public library in the community.
There will be varying levels of membership dues. You can also remember your library during this holiday season and make a donation to support them.
For more information about the Friends of Manville Library, stop by the library or call 908-722-9722. There is a Facebook page under construction for the group that will provide information about the group and events, programs, etc.
The next meeting for the FOML is on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the library at 100 South 10th Avenue. Feel free to come and join them to see what is happening at the local library.
