Cranbury, NJ-October 23, 2014 V.J. SCOZZARI & SONS, INC took part in the Topping Out Ceremony with TRUMPF Photonics, Inc.
Employees of both firms took part in the topping out ceremony held at TRUMPF’s Cranbury, New Jersey location. The event was marked by everyone in attendance signing the final steel to be used in the facility expansion project and a brief tour of the expansion. In addition everyone present was treated to a lunch of Leberkäs, a specialty food found in the south of Germany similar to bologna, and soft Bavarian pretzels for lunch.
The multi phased expansion of the Cranbury, NJ facility will provide TRUMPF with a new 6,180 square foot 35’ high mechanical room design to accommodate a significant expansion of process related systems and equipment, to support the Research & Development purposes of the facility and to provide redundancy in support systems. This includes the addition of three cooling towers and multiple chillers providing over 450 tons of supplemental process cooling.
A second phase includes a 6,420 square foot addition to provide employee amenities including a café, a kitchen, employee meeting rooms, locker rooms, and ancillary amenities. The employee amenity addition is design to support a future second floor addition.
V. J. Scozzari & Sons, Inc. and the specialty contractors engaged for this project are utilizing industry leading 3D/BIM modeling and Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) technology through the entire process to model the systems, coordinate, estimate, plan, and virtually build the new facility and systems. The models allow the Project Team Members to virtually navigate through the expansion and identify clashes in the process and mechanical intense project. The technology is further leverage to maximize efficiency through off-site pre-fabrication of significant portions of the systems thus reducing costly onsite coordination, fabrication, and testing, which further expedites job-site, time sensitive operations, resulting in a condensed overall project schedule.
