BORDENTOWN CITY —A new business featuring affordable treasures has opened in the city after two corporate recruiters who are local residents decided to team up.
“The business grew out of kind of a serendipity type of connection,” said c-owner Elizabeth Marsh in an email on Dec. 2
The store is owned by Iris Ethington and Ms. Marsh, residents of the Bordentown area.
Eccentricities at Extension Alley is located at 165 Third St., at the corner of Third Street and Railroad Avenue, and opened Nov. 28. The store is open Fridays from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturdays 1 to 9 p.m. and Sundays 2 to 6 p.m.
“We will open at other times on request — for example a wedding party, girls night out, or if business warrants us having extended hours,” she added.
“The other owner, Iris Ethington, grew up in the house I now own,” she said. “By coincidence she and I are both recruiters who work from home. I am a corporate recruiter currently consulting for PwC, and Iris is an executive search recruiter who has her own agency.”
Also, the two were selling jewelry, she said.
“We met about two years ago by chance,” she said. “Iris had been renting the space at 165 Third St. in Bordentown to use when she didn’t want to work from home.”
Ms. Marsh said it is a lovely location, very vintage and the landlord is just the most amazing man.
“We decided to try to open a shop to sell our wares, basically to support our shopping addiction,” she said. “Our thought was to make it a unique shopping experience by focusing on the customer; whatever the customer wants we can find.”
She said they are here to provide the best customer service and a respite from the stress of day-to-day life and of finding unique and amazing gifts for those hard-to-buy-for people in their lives.
“We are open to serving our customer’s requests and requirements, whether it is ordering a variety of jewelry in a certain color gemstone for a wedding party to choose from, opening at odd hours, or special requests for items or styles,” she said.
She said that they are constantly changing the store’s inventory.
“If our customers want to just have a seat and a cup of tea, that’s fine also,” she said. “We want it to be a comfortable retreat that is relaxing and inspiring where everyone feels good when they walk out.”
