HILLSBOROUGH: Santa sightings all over town

Fire companies, township host the jocular man

The holiday season came to Hillsborough big time on the weekend.
On Friday night, Santa rode into the municipal complex on a Flagtown Fire Company truck in rainy, cold weather to officiate at the ceremony to switch on the lights on the township tree on the lawn opposite the Garden of Honor.
Not many people witnessed the event, and those who did hustled inside for the more comfortable program inside. Santa Claus entertained a lone of kids and parents who snaked through the senior activity room to meet and greet St. Nick, whisper in his ear and be given a candy cane.
Township students Bridget Bergen, Katie Myers, Natalie Tavares, Sarah Spence and Delaney Carone dressed as elves and holiday characters wandered about, posing for photos with youngsters.
In the multipurpose room, free cookies and hot chocolate were given and Mallory Grazin’ Meats dished out free hamburger sliders.
On Saturday, Flagtown firefighters just got in their trips around part of the township, bringing Santa to neighborhoods on a firetruck, before heavy rains fell on the area.
The Route 206 and Woods Road fire companies plan on similar tours in thei coverage areas this weekend.
On Saturday morning, with emcee Tim Coyle maintaining a steady patter and led a holiday singalong to assuage children and families, Woods Road firefighters hosted two sold-out sessions of breakfast with Santa. The families feasted on flapjacks and french toast and then took turns posing for parents’ pictures and whispering secrets into Santa’s ear. Santa was assisted by elves Kacy Cauda, Gloria Realbuto and Megan Wilke, who handed out small stuffed animal plush toys to youngsters.
