A Montgomery Township woman was arrested just over 90 minutes after she allegedly robbed a bank Wednesday, Dec. 10, on Route 206 in Hillsborough.
Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano said Annette Contruso, 27, of Dunn Court, Montgomery Township, had been charged with first-degree armed robbery after taking money at about 8:42 a.m. from the Hillsborough branch of the Chase Bank.
Hillsborough Township police met with bank employees who said a female wearing a baseball cap entered the bank and handed a note to the teller.
According to the prosecutor, the note demanded money and threatened the teller by saying she was armed with a gun. The bank teller complied and turned over an undisclosed amount of currency. The suspect left the bank in a car in an unknown direction.
Through investigative measures, officers quickly identified Ms. Contruso as the suspect, police said.
Hillsborough police made contact with her and she agreed to surrender to authorities. At about 10:17 a.m. Ms. Contruso was taken into custody without incident with the assistance of Raritan Borough Police.
Detectives from the Hillsborough police, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, and agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Franklin field office responded to conduct the investigation.
After obtaining a Superior Court search warrant, detectives conducted a search of Ms. Contruso’s vehicle and personal belongings. A baseball cap, suspected proceeds from the robbery and a small quantity of CDS were seized.
Ms. Contruso was charged with armed robbery in the first degree and two counts of possession of CDS (cocaine and heroin), which are third-degree crimes.
Ms. Contruso was lodged in Somerset County Jail. Bail was set by the Superior Court Judge Yolanda Ciccone at $100,000 cash only.
