Senior Corner column

The Manville Senior Citizens meet at noon on the second Thursday of each month at the VFW on Washington Avenue. Residents of Manville age 50 and older are eligible for membership. Also, persons who do not remain residents of Manville are still eligible for membership. Membership is closed until the Jan. 8 meeting.
Nick Trilone will be collecting 2015 dues at the Dec. 11 meeting.
The Christmas party will be held at the Manville VFW on Saturday, Dec.13, from noon to 4 p.m. There will be a one-hour open bar with choice of chicken, fish or prime rib. Entertainment will be provided by Jonni Drue, aka I’ll Be Frank, and impressionists Dominique and Julian, who have performed in venues throughout the area.
Reminder: The party is on a Saturday, not a Sunday.
The installation of 2015 officers will be at the Jan. 8 meeting.
Canned goods or nonperishable food items will continue to be collected before each meeting. Remember to bring one item per member to stock the Food Bank.
Blood pressure screening is held before the beginning of each meeting for members, starting at 11:30 a.m.
The executive board will continue to hold its meetings the Thursday prior to the regular meeting.
Recreation events
Atlantic City — The bus leaves at 9 a.m. from the VFW parking lot the third Wednesday of each month for Harrah’s Casino. The cost is $5, of which $20 will be returned. The next trip is Dec. 17 and is open to the public. Contact either Bill Evans at 908-625-5013 or Barbara Panfile at 908-725-2684.
May 2-8 — Mackinac Island, Michigan, including Frankenmuth (Little Bavaria), Frank Lloyd Wright’s "Fallingwater," Mackinac Island carriage tour, Old Fort Mackinac, boat tour through Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie, Grand Hotel luncheon buffet, Bronner’ Christmas Wonderland and one night at the Mountaineer Racetrack & Casino in Chester, West Virginia.
Cost is $905 double occupancy with a $301 deposit due by Jan. 15, second payment due Feb. 15 and final payment due March 15. Contact Josephine Pschar at 908-722-0156. This trip is open to the public.
