HILLSBOROUGH: Pulsifer is thanked for service

School board thanks him for 8 years of service

By Gene Robbins, Managing Editor
Christopher Pulsifer was reminded of how far back his service on the Hillsborough Board of Education went when he went to buy a soda from the vending machine.
There on the wall in the middle of the length of the hall was a plaque from when the Auten Road Elementary School was converted to intermediate grades. He’s the only current school board member on that 2005 marker, which hangs where the tile and paint change, indicating where an addition was built.
On Dec. 22 Mr. Pulsifer accepted a wrapped plaque of his own from Board President Thomas Kinst, thanking him for his eight total years of service.
The software development manager started on the board in 2002, taking some time off.
He was president of the board from 2004-06. He chaired key committees like negotiations and education. Mr. Kinst recalled Mr. Pulsifer worked with groups to install the artificial turf field at the high school, and was known as an advocate for teachers, the administration and students, and not second-guessing himself once he had made a decision.
"My parents instilled in me two values — education and service," Mr. Pulsifer told the board. "I hope the district is at least a little to the positive because of something I did in eight years."
After the meeting he recalled that he was president in 2005 when the board settled a years-long dispute with contractors over payments due from the construction of an addition to the high school.
He said he had tried to count how many board members he had served with, and was stymied when he got to 25.
He publicly asked the community to get more involved and support the schools and board.
