HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP: Police Blotter

Hopewell Township police Lt. Christopher Kascik reported:
— On Dec. 12 at 10 a.m., Detective Michael Sherman charged a 17-year-old boy, from Pennington, with the theft of an iPad from the Hopewell Valley Central High School. The investigation began weeks earlier when the stolen iPad was sold on eBay to another individual. During the investigation, the iPad was recovered and returned to the school. The juvenile’s case will be heard in Family Court.
— On Dec. 17 at 3 p.m., Officer Nicholas Sparaco was on patrol on Pennington Road near I-95. He performed a random license plate inquiry on a 2013 BMW and found that the registered owner had a suspended driver’s license and warrant out for his arrest from Somerville Municipal Court. The driver matched the basic description of the registered owner and a motor vehicle stop was performed. The driver was identified as Tarek Kasmi, 32, of Meadowbrook Drive, Hillsborough. Mr. Kasmi was transported to police headquarters. He posted bail and was released after being cited for driving while suspended. His case will be heard in Municipal Court.
— On Dec. 14 at 5:15 a.m., Officer George Peterson stopped the driver of a 1999 Toyota for a motor vehicle violation. While speaking with a passenger in the vehicle — who was identified as Pierre A. Towns, 48, of Edgemont Lane, Willingboro — warrants for arrest from Hopewell Township and the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department were located. Mr. Towns was transported to police headquarters. He was then lodged at the Mercer County Correction Center to await transport to Burlington County Jail. His case will be heard in Burlington County Superior Court.
— On Dec. 19 at 3:30 a.m., Officer John Ferner was on patrol on Route 518 near Route 31. He stopped the driver of a 2009 Audi for speeding.. While speaking with the driver, identified as Remy Q. Gunn, 24, of Province Line Road, Hopewell Township, the officer smelled alcohol on Mr. Gunn’s breath and person. After having Mr. Gunn perform roadside sobriety tests, he was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released to a family member. He was cited for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and speeding. His case will be heard in Municipal Court.
— On Dec. 17 at 8:23 p.m., Officer Robert Voorhees was on patrol on Princeton Avenue and stopped the driver of a 2012 Mercedes for speeding. He spoke with the driver, identified as William A. Alena, 42, of Benedek Road, Princeton. While speaking with Mr. Alena, the officer smelled alcohol on his breath and person. After having him perform roadside sobriety testing, he was transported to police headquarters, processed and released to a friend after being charged with DWI, reckless driving and speeding. His case will be heard in Municipal Court in Hopewell Borough.
— On Dec. 14 at 2:40 a.m., Officer Alexis Mirra was on patrol on Route 29 near Church Road. She stopped the driver of a 2008 Ford for a speeding violation. While speaking with the driver, identified as Brian D. Friedeborn, 29, of Gilpin Court, Lawrenceville, she smelled the odor of alcohol on his breath and person. After having Mr. Friedeborn perform roadside sobriety tests, he was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and released to a friend after being charged with DWI, reckless driving and speeding. His case will be heard in Municipal Court.
— On Dec. 22 at 11:43 a.m., Officer Lincoln Karnoff went to Ingleside Avenue to check out a report of suspicious persons in the area. During the investigation he located Vidal Lopez-Sarabia, 29, of Rutherford Avenue, Trenton, and spoke with him. While speaking with him a warrant for his arrest from the City of Lambertville was located. He was transported to police headquarters, processed and released after posting bail. He also was cited for driving while suspended, driving without a license, driving an uninsured vehicle and driving an unregistered vehicle. His case will be heard in Municipal Court.
— On Dec. 21 at 1:30 a.m., Officer Mark Panzano was on patrol on Route 31 near Tree Farm Road. He stopped the driver of a 1999 Chevy for speeding. While speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, a passenger, identified as Ernest Canales, 27, of Glendale Street, Philadelphia, was found to be in possession of marijuana. He was transported to police headquarters, processed and released after being charged with possession of marijuana. His case will be heard in Municipal Court.
