Fire fighters extinguished a chimney fire that damaged the home of June Ondrejik at 75 New Amwell Road at 10:37 a.m. Dec. 31.
The homeowner’s son, William Ondrejik, had evacuated the house by the time fire trucks arrived. The fire was brought under control but the exterior wall around the fireplace was substantially damaged, police said.
The incident is being investigated but it is not considered suspicious, police said.
Responding were the Flagtown, Route 206 and Woods Road fire companies (Hillsborough companies 1, 2 and 3), as well as Neshanic’s. Also at the scene were the Hillsborough Emergency Management Services, Somerset County Fire Coordinator, Hillsborough Office of Emergency Management and the township building department.
