HILLSBOROUGH: Young grapplers off to fast start

Hillsborough Youth Wrestling’s varsity team began its season in the Central Jersey Youth Wrestling League with three victories and no defeats in December.
The Raiders defeated East Brunswick, 66-33; New Providence, 75-12, and Middlesex, 54-29. Chris Spinelli, Joe Witcoski, Cole Psemecki, AJ Johnson & Danny Guerrero led the team with 3 wins, including 2 pins.
Jason Roser and Cameron Hill had 3 wins, including a 1 pin, while Peter Quandt and Ryan Oram contributed 3 wins each. Evan Karolewski had 2 wins, including 1 pin, while Austin Quandt and Rich Sonnenberg also added 2 wins. Logan McDermid added 1 pin and Sean LeBron had 1 win.
The Junior Varsity team finished December with two losses in the Raritan Valley Wrestling League. The team lost, 40-36, to Somerville and to Branchburg, 56-21.
Brian Quabeck and Justin LeBron each began the season with 2 wins, including 1 pin. Kraig Ravaioli, Jack Morris and Logan McDermid all had pins, while Tyler Oram, Matt Jones, Jack Miller, Tommy Kester and Brett Lockburner added victories to their record.
Twenty Hillsborough Youth Wrestling team members and two middle school wrestlers competed Dec. 28 at the Golden Bear Tournament in Kenilworth. The boys ended the day with 37 victories versus 26 defeats, and gained 11 medals. Five wrestlers finished in 1st place, led by Ryan Spinelli, Kraig Ravaioli, Logan McDermid, Jason Roser and Cole Psemeneki.
Three wrestlers gained 2nd place awards as Brian Quabeck, Peter Quandt and Vinnie Aboosamara finished the day 2-1. Chris Spinelli, Justin LeBron and Christian Quandt received 3rd- place medals.
