MILLSTONE — Margaret Gordon will be busier this year, as was evidenced at the Millstone Township K-8 School District Board of Education reorganization meeting on Jan. 5.

In a 6-3 vote, the board members selected Gordon to serve as president. Gordon previously served as the panel’s vice president. She will also serve on several board committees.

Board members David DePinho, Kevin McGovern, Melissa Riviello, John Saxton and Cynthia Bailey voted for Gordon, and she also voted for herself.

Board members Neil Schloss, Amy Jacobson and Ramon Recalde voted “no” on Gordon’s nomination.

Recalde nominated DePinho to continue serving as the board’s president, but De- Pinho declined to have his name placed in nomination.

Saxton was appointed vice president in a 6-3 vote. Those in favor were Saxton, Gordon, DePinho, McGovern, Riviello and Bailey. The “no” votes were from Jacobson, Schloss and Recalde.

Jacobson was nominated to serve as vice president, but lost in 5-4 vote. Schloss, Recalde and Bailey voted for Jacobson, and she voted for herself. Gordon, Saxton, De- Pinho, McGovern and Riviello voted “no” on the nomination.

Jacobson was appointed in a 9-0 vote to represent the Millstone Township board at meetings of the Upper Freehold Regional School District Board of Education. Millstone Township sends its high school students to Allentown High School in the Upper Freehold district.

“The position [takes] time [because it] involves two school boards, so we appreciate [your] volunteering,” Gordon said to Jacobson.

Bailey agreed to serve as the board’s representative on the Delegate Assembly, which governs the New Jersey School Boards Association.

Business Administrator Bernard Biesiada said the delegate from Millstone will attend the annual New Jersey Delegate Assembly.

At the reorganization meeting, Riviello, Bailey and Saxton were sworn in to begin serving three-year terms. Recalde was sworn in to begin serving a one-year term.

Gordon announced committee assignments for the board members.

Serving on the Education Committee are Chairwoman Riviello, Jacobson and Recalde.

The Operations Committee will consist of Chairman Saxton, Schloss and Gordon.

The Partnership Committee, involving the Upper Freehold and Roosevelt committees, will include McGovern, DePinho, Saxton and Gordon.
