Louise Saul

Louise Saul, 93, of East Brunswick, New Jersey, died at her home on Jan. 25, 2015. She was a beloved columnist and reporter and retired as the managing editor of the Sentinel Newspapers, although her work also appeared regularly in the Home News- Tribune and The New York Times. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, she was a tireless advocate for civil rights. Although she would go on to win numerous journalism awards, she was proudest of the “Brotherhood Award” she received from the East Brunswick Human Relations Council in 1964. She also fought hard for equal employment and representation for women.

Saul was a graduate of Wagner College and earned a master’s degree in childhood education from Columbia University, teaching in New York City and New Brunswick for 12 years before becoming a journalist.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Edwin Saul; brother, Fred Niclas; daughters, April Saul and Amy Catarino; and grandchildren, Amy Saul-Zerby; Christopher Catarino; Nicholas Saul-Zerby; and Tyler Catarino.

Services were held Feb. 1 at Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick. After visitation and a memorial service, interment followed at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick.
