HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP: Car-truck crash ends in fire

Today (Feb. 10) at 11:53 a.m., Hopewell Township police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Route 31 at the intersection of North Main Street, according to Lt. William H. Springer.
Patricia M. Chang, 54, of Montreal, Canada, was operating a 2011 BMW in the left turn lane from Route. 31, waiting to turn left onto Tree Farm Road.
Ms. Chang then decided to turn right, re-entering the northbound lane of travel for Route 31 and struck a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, which was towing a 16- foot landscaping trailer, It was operated by Christopher Miller, 55, of Dorothy.
The pickup truck and trailer then struck a guardrail on the northbound side of Route 31 and traveled down an embankment. The Chevrolet pickup truck became engulfed in flames, secondary to a ruptured fuel line that occurred during the crash.
Neither driver reported injuries at the scene. A passenger in the BMW and a passenger in the Chevrolet also did not report any injuries at the scene.
The Pennington Fire Company, Hopewell Valley Emergency Services and the Hopewell Fire Department arrived and extinguished the fire.
The crash is under investigation by Officer James Hoffman of the Hopewell Township Police Department.
Ms. Chang was issued a summons for careless driving.
